NÄKÖVAMMAISTEN LIITTO RY

3 M€ to support visually impaired people. Got 100% of what it applied for - not a cent was cut. Regional service guidance and counselling (600k€) is concrete work that makes everyday life easier. Digital skills and accessible publishing (909k€) is the largest single item. Daisy player lending is necessary, but is 909k€ a year the right amount? Postage for the visually impaired post service is 420k€ a year. This is a pure operating cost, not development. Employment promotion (317k€) - the same work is done by the TE Office and the wellbeing services counties. General grant 727k€ (24%). Five grant items, all approved as is.

Kuurojen Liitto ry, Finlands Dövas Förbund rf

2.1 M€ for services for sign language users. Got 100% of what it applied for. General grant 803k€ (38%). Service guidance and language identity (629k€) is the largest item - regional counselling and digital support for Deaf people. Sign language communication (332k€) - access to information in one's own language is a fundamental right. Online dictionary (103k€) for sign languages - a unique service. The Deaf community is small and specialized, so the risk of overlap is small. Compare: Kuuloliitto 2 M€ for the hard of hearing. A different target group (Deaf vs. hard of hearing) but partly the same advocacy.

Kuuloliitto ry, Finska Hörselförbundet rf

2 M€ to support people with hearing loss. General grant 1.1 M€ (54%) - more than half the funding is general grant. Hearing events and the hearing van (470k€) - a concrete service where volunteers test people's hearing around Finland. Hearing courses (235k€) for older people, tinnitus patients and children - peer support. Hearing and cognition work (160k€) identifies links between hearing and memory - important for an ageing population. Member organization grants of 50k€ are passed through the umbrella organization. Compare: Näkövammaisten liitto 3 M€, Kuurojen liitto 2.1 M€ - three sensory disability organizations, 7 M€ in total. Partly the same advocacy.

4.

SUOMEN KUUROSOKEAT RY

1.3 M€ to support deafblind people. A very small target group: an estimated 800-1000 deafblind people in Finland. Regional information, counselling and support (381k€) is the largest item. Digital guidance (270k€) and communication training (140k€) are specialized services. General grant 346k€ (27%). Course activity (144k€). Deafblindness requires special expertise that other disability organizations do not offer. Per client this is an expensive service: 1.3 M€ / ~1000 people = ~1300 € per deafblind person. But the alternative is isolation.
